He was born June 17, 1891 in Stockholm, Sweden, son of the late Frank and Charlotte Layding. He was also preceded in death by his wife, the former Elsie Mae Landis, and two sons. He is survived by a daughter, Bertina, at home, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Richard W. (Betty) Layding Sr., Berlin; two grandsons, Richard, Middletown, Ohio; and Robert, Somerset; also three great-grandchildren. He was a retired coal miner. Member of First Brethren Church, Berlin, Harry Fisher Post No. 445 American Legion, and Robert Walker Post 4333 VFW, both of Berlin, and Veterans of World War I of the USA, Barracks No. 3218, Somerset. Friends were received at the Johnson-Kuhlman Funeral Home, Berlin, where services were held with the Rev. Ralph E. Mills officiating. Interment, Berlin I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
