Funeral services were held at Mt. Zion Methodist Church on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 1. Rev. D. J. Combs, the pastor, officiated. Mrs. Harry Yommer, Mrs. Harry Bender, and Mrs. Harry Hoover sang several selections. The pallbearers were his nephews - Lee Layman, Blaine Layman, Charles Durst, Lester White, Willard Layman and Walter Cutchall. Interment in the church cemetery. Mr. Layman was born December 28, 1873, at Avilton, a son of the late Anthony and Elizabeth (Poleman) Layman. He located in Jennings in 1901 and was engaged in business there until a few weeks ago when he was taken ill with pneumonia, which resulted in his death. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rosa (Cunningham) Layman; a son, Herbert C. Layman, Grantsville; a daughter, Mrs. Earl (Butler) Lichty, residing near Frostburg; two brothers, Louis H. Layman, Shade Mills, and Albert A. Layman, Frostburg; also eight grandchildren. Five brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. Among relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Kerns, Elkins, W.Va.; Mrs. Wilbur Kerns and Floyd Harper, Kerns, W.Va.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Drew, Mrs. Martha Layman, Mr. and Mrs. Argil Layman, Cumberland; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cutchall, Cresaptown; Mr. and Mrs. Gurnie Coleman, Frostburg.
