Layman, 74, of Grantsville RD 1, Md., and 804 Greene Street, Cumberland Md. died Monday, Aug. 18, 1986, at Frostburg Community Hospital, Md. Born in Grantsville, Md. March 17, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Asa and Nancy (Durst) Durst. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leander T. Layman. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, a former member of the WSCS, and a member of Oak Grove Mennonite Ladies Aid. Surviving are one son, George Layman, Grantsville, Md.; four daughters, Mrs. Anna Mae Bittner, Frostburg, Md.; and Mrs. Nancy Watkins, Grantsville, Md.; Mrs. Sara L. Howard, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and Mrs. Judy Raye Morlen, Cumberland, Md.; two brothers, Sherman Durst, Lonaconing, Md.; and Wilbert Durst, Grantsville, Md.; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Bach, Cumberland, Md.; Mrs. Mabel Harden, Midland, Md.; and Mrs. Ethel Cutter, Grantsville, Md.; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. Services were conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Mennonite Church by the Rev. Earl Yoder. Interment Mount Zion Cemetery, Long Stretch. Pallbearers were Mark Watkins, Scott Watkins, Greg Layton, Gary Layman and Jeff Layman. The Republic, August 28, 1986 [L0416]
