He was born September 22, 1935 in Meridian, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his father, John Charles Layton. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen J. Layton; mother, Alice Elizabeth Thomas, Somerset; daughters: Kimberly J. Nave and her husband Gary; Tonya S. Couser and her husband William; Heather A. Levert and her husband Chad; grandchildren: Jason, Nave, Kari Nave, Zachary Couser, Emily Couser, Jake Levert, Camden Levert, Brooklyn Levert. Also survived by brother, Robert Layton and his wife Anita, Summit Point, WV; special uncle and aunt, Carl and Thelma Fritz, Somerset; and many nieces and nephews. In January 1954, he enlisted in the USAF. During his career in the Air Force, he was a member of the Honor Guard and Drill Team at Bolling AFB, Washington D.C., he was stationed in Okinawa, NY, England, Spain, Turkey, Texas, South Korea, and retired from Lackland AFB San Antonio in 1974. After retirement, he owned A-1 Billiard Sales and Service in San Antonio. He loved his family, God and his country. A graveside service and interment will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
