Born Oct. 3, 1920 in Cumberland, Md., he was a son of the late Elwood Joel and Sara Agnes (Coughenour) Leister. Mr. Leister was preceded in death by two sons, William G. and Gary W., and by a great-grandson, Tyler. Surviving are Audrey (Casson), his wife of 45 years, whom he married Sept. 17, 1954; two sons, Alan "Gene" and wife Janice (Barrett), Hyndman and John E. and wife Tina (Fochtman), Carlisle; five daughters, Cheryl L. Shaffer, wife of Steven, Hyndman, Virginia L. Logsdon, wife of Melvin E., Buffalo Mills, Mary L. Wisniewski, wife of Craig, Port Orange, Fla., Donna M. Gibbons, wife of Charles Jr., Buffalo Mills, and Deborah L. Jeffreys, widow of Timothy, Hyndman; two brothers, Wayne, married to Theresa (Casson), Pittsburgh, and Ronald, married to Pauline (Kennell), Hyndman; a sister Carol Meier, wife of Harold, East Lake, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy McClain, Hyndman; 19 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Leister was a carpenter and member of the Cumberland Local Carpenter's Union. He was an active member of the Wills Mountain Church of Christ. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 168 Clarence St., Hyndman, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday with Evangelist Harry T. Ryan, Wills Mountain Church of Christ, officiating. Interment, Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Northampton Township, Somerset County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Wills Mountain Church of Christ, c/o Judy Shaffer, treasurer, RD 1, Box 355, Hyndman, Pa. 15545.
