Mrs. Nancy Elvira Walls Lewis, wife of Anthony C. Lewis, died suddenly early Sunday morning, March 2, at her farm home near here. Mrs. Lewis was a sister of the late Rev. J. E. Walls, who died last Monday and for whom funeral services were conducted last Thursday. Mrs. Lewis had recently been quite ill of pneumonia and had spent three weeks at the Hazel McGilvery Hospital in Meyersdale. She was removed to her home about a month ago and apparently was recovering satisfactorily. She appeared to feel exceptionally well on Sunday morning, her family said. After admonishing some of the younger members of the family to "hurry and get ready for Sunday school", she sat down to glance over a Sunday school paper. Her husband found her dead when he returned to the room a few moments later. Mrs. Lewis was 55 years of age. She was born in the Elk Lick Township, Somerset County, Pa., October 2, 1885, a daughter of the late John Walls and Sarah McClosky Walls Butler. She moved to this community with her parents when quite young and spent practically her entire life in this section. She and Mr. Lewis had been married about thirty-five years. During their early married life they lived on a farm on Negro Mountain and in 1918 moved to their present home a few miles west of here. Mrs. Lewis was a good wife and mother, her first interest being her home and family. She was also a kind and considerate neighbor and her loss will be felt keenly, not only by her family, but by her many friends in this and neighboring communities. In her early girlhood she became a member of the Grantsville Lutheran Church and remained a faithful and devout member of that congregation until her death. In her passing Mrs. Lewis leaves her bereaved husband, her mother, who resides at Accident, and the following children: John Lewis, Frank Lewis, Rosie (Mrs. Elmer) Miller, Grantsville, Ray, Edna and Carl Lewis, at home, Nellie (Mrs. Clyde) Yommer, Jennings, Florence (Mrs. Arthur) Wright, Stoystown, Charles Lewis, Meadville, Pa., Joseph Lewis and Elmer Lewis, Pinto. Also surviving are two brothers, Charles Walls and John Walls, Grantsville; a half-brother, Arthur Butler, Accident; three half-sisters, Mrs. Fred Dickinson, Chester, Pa., Mrs. Lee Durst, Breckenridge, Pa., and Mrs. William Simmons, Accident, and eight grandchildren. The Rev. Samuel D. Sigler, pastor of her church, conducted funeral services here at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday morning, March 5, and interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery under the supervision of William Winterberg, local mortician. Pallbearers were Scott Duckworth, Albert Reichenbecher, Charles Reichenbecher, Ernest Ringer, William Menges and Joel A. Beachy. Meyersdale Republican, March 6, 1941
