Lichliter, born April 2, 1884, in Salisbury, died suddenly in his native town, which was his home during his entire life, about 3 p.m., Nov. 25, 1941, at the age of 57 years, 7 months and 23 days. His death was caused by coronary thrombosis, and soon after it occurred, a report became current that he fell dead while at work in the Lichliter grocery, owned and operated by himself and his elder brother, John C. Lichliter, Sr. Naturally, when the news of his sudden death was first heard of by persons outside of the store, it created much surprise as no one, except Dr. B. H. Hoke, Jr., his family physician, himself, a few of his nearest relatives and friends, knew that he had been ailing at intervals for a considerable time. However, like many other persons engaged in business or at any kind of work, Mr. Lichliter, doubtless did not realize, even though cautioned by his doctor from time to time not to do so, that he was at times over exerting himself. However, he did not fall dead in the store room, as people on the street had first heard; but he did not miss doing so by very much, as he was waiting on a customer at the store some minutes after 2 o'clock. Soon thereafter he felt so ill that he ascended the stairway leading to his living quarters where he was found to be in such a serious condition that he was helped to bed and his doctor sent for. In less than an hour after being put to bed, the spark of life had fled. William C. Lichliter was the youngest child of the late Levi and Sarah Smith Lichliter. His father died about 16 years ago, and his mother about 3 years earlier. He was twice married, first to Miss Helen Rumgay of Meyersdale, who died childless, a little more than 13 years ago. He is survived by his second wife, Mrs. Nelle Brant Lichliter, and one daughter, Ann Marie. He is also survived by two brothers and four sisters; Christian S. and John C., of Salisbury; Mrs. Adaline Keller of Pittsburgh; Emily, wife of Frank Forner, and the Misses Edith and Almira of Salisbury. He was associated in business with his brother John C. for nearly or quite 20 years. The funeral took place at the family home, Friday afternoon, Nov. 28th, at 2:30 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. E. D. Bright of Thurmont, Md., a former pastor of the local Evangelical and Reformed Church, of which the deceased was a member. Rev. S. D. Sigler of the local Lutheran Church, assisted Rev. Bright in conducting the services. The funeral was largely attended, and the floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. Most of the business places in Salisbury were closed on the day of the funeral from 2 until 4 o'clock. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, under the direction of Stanley M. Thomas, Salisbury mortician and funeral director. Meyersdale Republican, December 4, 1941
