All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ SIMON LICHTY Simon Lichty, a native of Somerset County, Pa., but for many years a resident of Garrett County, Md., residing near Oakland and Gortner, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 2, 1932, in the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md., at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 13 days. His death followed a hernia operation from which Mr. Lichty seemed to be recovering nicely, and was almost ready to return home, when some other complication set in, and his death speedily followed. A post- mortem examination showed that his death was caused by a blood clot in one of his lungs. Mr. Lichty was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Lichty, and he was born near Garrett, Pa. Simon Lichty was a faithful member of the Amish Mennonite Church, and was a man and citizen of the finest type. He will be sadly missed by all his friends and neighbors, who held him in the highest esteem. The funeral was held at a small union church near the place of his last residence, and was conducted by Jonas B. and Milton Miller, two brothers residing in the Grantsville district, the first mentioned a minister of the Amish Church, the other a minister of the Mennonite Church. Deceased is survived by nine children, as follows: Jonas S., of Salisbury; Fanny, wife of John Stutzman, Hartville, Ohio; Noah, Daniel, Elizabeth, the wife of Jacob Swartzendruber; Dora, the wife of Daniel Swartzendruber; Mary, Ross and Roy, all residing in the vicinity of Gortner. Mary, Ross and Roy had been living with their father. Their mother preceded their father in death. He is also survived by brothers and sisters, as follows: Austin, of Elk Lick Township; Bernard, residing near Rockwood; Hiram, of Davis County, Ind.; Mrs. Alex Faidley, of Summit Township; Mrs. Carolina Pritts, residing near Berlin; Mrs. Elizabeth Frazer, of Schellsburg, Pa., and Mrs. George Oaks, of Garrett. Mr. Lichty is also survived by numerous grandchildren, and many other near relatives, most of whom live in his native county. Meyersdale Republican, February 11, 1932
