LISTON Grantsville, Maryland Mrs. Effie A. Liston, aged 43, wife of Harry Liston, died at the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, about 10 o'clock Sunday morning, August 25. She was admitted to the hospital August 11, and underwent an operation for appendicitis the next morning. Apparently she was improving satisfactorily and was able to be up in a wheel chair last Friday, it was said. She suffered a relapse however and peritonitis developed, resulting in her death. Prior to her admittance to the hospital, Mrs. Liston appeared to be in the best of health and news of her sudden death came as a shock to her family and many friends in this section. Mrs. Liston was born in the Cove section, a daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Ringer Hockman, now of Grantsville, and the late Fred Hockman. She was twice married, her first husband, Clarence Hetrick, having been killed in a mine accident some years ago. She later remarried Mr. Liston and for the past fifteen years had made her home at Accident. She had been a member of the Lutheran church since early childhood. Surviving, in addition to her mother and husband are two sons by her first marriage, Lawrence Hetrick, McKeesport, Pa., and Blaine Hetrick, Wadsworth, O.; one son, Homer Liston, at home, born of her second union, one brother, Glenn Hockman, Grantsville, and one sister, Mrs. Harry P. Collier, Accident. Funeral services were conducted from the Accident Lutheran Church at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 27. Meyersdale Republican, August 29, 1940
