She was a daughter of Daniel and Harriet Polan Barchus, both deceased, the mother dying when Mrs. Loechel was an infant. Mr. Barchus located in Somerset County, Pa., near Addison, some time during the "sixties," and about 1870 located in Salisbury, where he died some thirty years ago. Soon after locating in Somerset County, Mr. Barchus married Barbara Livengood, also long deceased, and it was in Somerset County that the only daughter of Daniel Barchus grew to womanhood under the care of a most noble step-mother. She became the wife of Henry Loechel Dec. 18, 1872, and enjoyed his companionship for more than 58 years. To Mr. and Mrs. Loechel were born two sons, Edward and Lester, both of whom, and their father, survive, and are residents of Salisbury. Mrs. Loechel is also survived by a half-brother, John L. Barchus, and one grandchild, Henry Loechel, Jr., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Loechel. When death came to Mrs. Loechel she had reached the ripe age of 76 years, 8 months and 13 days. For many years she enjoyed good health, and helped her husband conduct the well known Valley House, which was destroyed by fire in 1923, and never rebuilt, on account of the age of Mr. and Mrs. Loechel, and their declining health. They conducted one of the best hotels in Somerset County, and after their retirement in 1923, they both were in fairly good health until within the last year or two when Mrs. Loechel began to fail rapidly, due to the infirmities of old age. During the last few months she was confined to her bed and under the care of a nurse, suffering a great deal much of the time, until a cerebral hemorrhage ended her suffering at 12:35 a.m., Sept. 22, 1931. In the passing of Mrs. Loechel, Salisbury has lost a very highly esteemed resident, a woman of many admirable traits. She was a good wife and mother, and will be missed by her many friends. The funeral has been announced to take place at the Loechel home, at 2 p.m. today (Thursday), conducted by Rev. S. D. Sigler, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, of which deceased was a faithful member. Burial arrangements in charge of Funeral Director W. C. Price of Meyersdale. Interment in the Salisbury I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, September 24, 1931
