He was born in Salisbury, March 19, 1875, and died at the age of 57 years and 8 days. He was sick but little during his entire life and was never known to have any heart trouble until he was stricken by the attack which proved fatal on the same day. He was taken sick about 3 o'clock Sunday morning and when Dr. B. H. Hoke, Jr., was called to see him, he was found to have a severe attack of angina pectoris. The doctor promptly administered a remedy, which gave considerable relief for a time, but in the evening his condition became suddenly worse, and he died at the time stated while sitting in a chair, conversing with his uncle, J. L. Barchus, who had called to see him. Mr. Loechel was twice married, the first time when still a young man, to Miss Ida Balliet, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Balliet. He lived happily with his first wife until she passed out of this life in November, 1919. On June 5, 1921, he married Mrs. W. G. Fay, a widowed daughter of Mahlon Wisler, with whom he also lived happily for nearly eleven years. He is survived by his second wife and a son he had by her, Henry Loechel, Jr., aged 6 years. He is also survived by three step-children, namely, Nellie, John and Willard Fay, and by his aged father, Henry Loechel, Sr., and one brother, Lester Loechel. Edward M. Loechel was a kind and loving husband to both of his wives, as well as a kind and loving father to his only child, and just as kind to his step- children, who loved him as much as he loved them. In fact Mr. Loechel was kind and friendly to everybody, and he left a host of friends who are saddened by his death. He loved his fellowmen and was ever ready to do anyone a good turn. His entire life was lived in Salisbury. For a number of years he assisted his father in the hotel and livery business; but after his father retired from business on account of old age, Edward made himself useful at whatever honorable work he could get to do. He was a member of the Reformed Church. The funeral service was conducted at his late home by his pastor, Rev. A. M. Wright, assisted by Rev. S. D. Sigler, pastor of the Salisbury Lutheran Church. The funeral was largely attended, and there were many beautiful floral tributes. The burial arrangements were in charge of Funeral Director W. C. Price, of Meyersdale. Interment in I.O.O.F. Cemetery. The surviving son, step-sons and step-daughter, are all at home with their mother. Meyersdale Republican, March 31, 1932
