Lorentz, 67, of 1044 West Union St., Somerset, died Sept. 9, 1987, at the Somerset Community Hospital. Born Oct. 27, 1919, in Wheeling, W.Va., son of the late Fred and Flora (Moore) Lorentz. Preceded in death by an infant brother. Survived by his wife of 30 years, the former Betty Confer; two sons William Robert, married to former Pamela Queer of Sterling, W.Va. and James W. of Harrisburg; one grandson, Robert Claude Lorentz of Sterling, W.Va.; one brother, William E. Lorentz of Lake Charles, La. Member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Somerset, where he served as deacon, trustee and elder. He was a member, past president and secretary of the Somerset Lions Club; served as District Governor of 14M in 1971 and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow in 1984. Former owner-operator of Shoemaker Brothers Men's Store in Somerset. Retired as storekeeper at the Somerset State Hospital. U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II. Friends will be received 7-9 p.m. Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Wilbur D. Miller Funeral Home where funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Beer and Jay Shaffer officiating. Interment, Husband Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul's United Church of Christ or Beacon Lodge for the Blind.
