Two weeks ago Mr. Lowery had a stroke of paralysis which severely affected his entire left side, his throat and eyes, and he died after much severe suffering from a cerebral hemmorrhage, at the age of 58 years, 7 months and 4 days. Mr. Lowery lived most of his mature years at the Shaw Mines, near Meyersdale, where he was engaged in coal mining. After the World War he moved his family to Meyersdale and bought from Fred P. Hare a restaurant that was located on South Center Street. Later he disposed of the restaurant and about seven years ago moved with his family to Akron, Ohio, where they have since resided. He was a kind and loving husband and father and spent his entire mature life in loving devotion to his family. Early in life he had the misfortune of injuring his right leg so badly that he went through life after the age of 13 years with a badly crippled limb in which the ligaments were so shrunken as to draw the leg into a bent position. In spite of this severe handicap, Mr. Lowery was always cheerful and happy and was a very industrious citizen and reared a very worthy family. His body was shipped to Meyersdale last Thursday evening, arriving here on Friday, and was taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. William Smith on Grant Street, where funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. H. A. Grove of Frostburg, Md., pastor of the Pentecostal Church at that place. A choir from Boynton sang several selections and interment was made in Union Cemetery under the direction of W. C. Price. The pallbearers were made up of members of Berlin Council No. 59, of the Junior O.U.A.M., of which Mr. Lowery and two of his sons were members. Mr. Lowery is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Frances Fate, Mrs. Margaret Tipton, Mrs. Edna Smith, Mrs. Isabelle Lent, Misses Mae, Violet, and Bertha Lowery, Henry and Thomas Lowery, all living in Akron, O., nine grandchildren, three brothers, Henry of Shaw Mines, George and Harry of Cumberland, Md., and two sisters, Mrs. Frances Haden of Cumberland and Mrs. Mae Smith of Meyersdale. All the members of his immediate family attended the funeral services here. Meyersdale Republican, May 19, 1932
