All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ SAMUEL LOWREY Death of Samuel Lowrey, Coal Run's Aged Blacksmith At Ripe Old Age Samuel Lowrey, aged blacksmith of Coal Run, died at his home at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6th, of generalized arterio sclerosis. Mr. Lowrey worked as a blacksmith for the Bowman coal interests for more than 30 years. About eight years ago he retired, and had been bothered with a heart condition from time to time since then. He was born in Elk Lick Township on December 7, 1861, son of Danniel and Tyrannus (Christner) Lowrey, and was aged 83 years and 30 days at his death. He is survived by his wife, Janet (Walker) Lowrey; four daughters, Mrs. Jane Steel of Coal Run; Mrs. Daniel Close, Everett, Pa.; Mary, wife of Harry C. Young, Hopewell, Pa.; Margaret, wife of Roy Hinebaugh, Cumberland, Md.; one son, Frank Lowrey of Connellsville; 44 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas and Marshall. Funeral services were conducted at his home at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10th, with Rev. Sherwood C. Keiser, of Meyersdale, officiating. Interment in the Salisbury I.O.O.F. Cemetery, in charge of Mortician Stanley M. Thomas. Meyersdale Republican, January 11, 1945
