Lowry, 82, Gainesville, Ga., formerly of Sky Valley, Ga. and Shanksville, died Dec. 3, 2001, in Gainesville. Born Oct. 19, 1919 in Shanksville, son of the late William and Winnie (Spangler) Lowry. Preceded in death by parents, brothers: Ray, Frank and Roland; sister, Ethel Lowry Reese. Survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Esther Powell Lowry; children: William and his wife, Dawn, New Jersey; Christopher and his wife Wendy, Georgia: David, Florida; Susan and her husband, Ricky Blalock, Florida; Theresa and her husband, David Bright, Georgia; and Debby and her husband Mickey Wheeler, Georgia; sister Kathryn Walker, Frederick, Pa.; brothers: Telford, Shanksville; Donald, Harrisburg; and Kenneth, Florida. He was graduated from Penn state in 1942 with a degree in agronomy. Navy veteran of World War II in the field of communications. He was employed by the Campbell Soup Company for 34 years and was manager for seed operations when he retired in 1980. An active member of the Chapel of Sky Valley where he served on the board, sang in the choir and helped to secure a full-time minister before moving to Gainesville where he joined the First United Methodist Church. An avid golfer, gardener, wine-maker and orchid grower. He enjoyed stone sculpturing. A memorial service was held Dec. 6. Daily American, December 11, 2001 [L1370]
