Lumadue, 62, resident of 12 E. Madison Ave., Shelby, Ohio, died Friday afternoon in the Cleveland Clinic following a lingering illness. Born in Toledo to Charles and Florence (James) Lumadue, Aug, 26, 1925. He had been a Shelby resident for 25 years. He was a graduate of Wittenburg College and Hamma Divinity School. Pastor Jim was ordained a Lutheran minister in 1949. Began his ministry with the Lucas-Mifflin parish where he received the honor of rural minister from the Ohio Council of Churches. In 1953 he served the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Elyria, Ohio, the parish in which he was confirmed. He received his graduate degree from Oberlin School of Theology in 1956. In 1960 he accepted a call to Trinity Lutheran Church in Somerset and served until Dec. 1963 when he came to First Lutheran Church in Shelby. He received his doctorate degree from Ashland College in 1980 and retired from active ministery in April 1983 due to declining health. Pastor Jim was active in the Ohio Luther League, Lakeside Summer School staff, Camp Mowan staff and served on the executive board of the Ohio Synod. Survivors include his wife, Sallie; a son, James L. of Bedford, Pa.; 3 daughters: Mrs. Keith (Karen) Kerr of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; Mrs. Thomas (Claudia) Crall of Alpharetta, Ga.; Mrs. Gregory (Elizabeth) Straw of Fairfax, Va.; 7 grandchildren and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Major Donald L. Lumadue. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tues. from First Lutheran Church, Shelby, Ohio. Rev. Robert F. Hall, recently retired from St. Michael's Lutheran Church of Mifflin, will officiate. Interment, Mt. Zion Cemetery, Lucas, Ohio. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home, Shelby, Ohio, Monday 6-9 p.m. Pastor Jim established a Lutheran scholarship fund of First Lutheran Church in recognition of the ongoing need for well trained Christian Young People to step into positions of responsibility and influence.
