Lyons, 69, a resident of Berlin for many years, died suddenly at his home, Sunday, June 23, at 3:30 p.m. With some friends he had gone to Maryland early Sunday morning to pick cherries. On his return about one p.m. he went to his physician for medical aid and later the physician was called to his home, but too late to be of assistance. He was born in Somerset County, Feb. 7, 1877, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Israel Lyons. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Etta (Phillippi) Lyons and these children by a former marriage: Vernon and Ralph Lyons, of Berlin, and Mrs. A. J. Crete, Farmersville, Mass.; one brother, Edward Lyons, of Berlin, and five sisters - Mrs. Mary Davis, living in California state; Mrs. Fred Mathias, Scottdale; Mrs. Roy Dayton, Republic, Pa.; Mrs. Harry Ruble, New Alexandria, Pa., and Mrs. Lillian Turner, Wheeling, W.Va. Also these step-children: John Phillippi, Charleston, W.Va.; Harry, Ray and Earl Phillippi, of Middlecreek Twp.; Charles Phillippi and Mrs. Robert Baker, Rockwood, and Maude, at home. Mr. Lyons was an expert mason by trade and a very active member of the Berlin Methodist Church. Funeral services were held in the Johnson Funeral Home, Wednesday, June 26, at 2 p.m., Rev. Paul Trimpey officiating. Interment in the cemetery at Barron's church, in Middlecreek Township. Meyersdale Republican, June 27, 1946
