(Somerset, Pa.): April 27, 1892 Francis May, a one-armed veteran of the war and one of the best known men in Somerset county, died at his home near Markleton, in Upper Turkeyfoot township at an early hour Sunday morning, in the 62nd year of his age. Death resulted from heart disease. Mr. May had only been confined to his home for a few days, the disease coming upon him with such swiftness and violence that the skill of his able physicians was baffled from the inception. The funeral took place 2 p. m. Monday and was conducted by comrades of the G. A. R. post. Francis May enlisted in Co. H. 85th Reg’t., Pa. Vols. (Maj. Jas. B. Tredwell’s original Co.) in October 1861. He was mustered out September 18th, 1864, on a surgeon’s certificate of disability. He leaves a wife and four or five grown children.
