Mahaffey, 72, of Confluence RD 1, died April 20, 1984, at home. Born April 5, 1912, in Grant County, W. Va., a son of the late James and Cora (Cosner) Mahaffey. Preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl; a son, Dale; also, one brother. Surviving are his wife, Virginia (Miller) Mahaffey; a step-son, Norton Clouse of Columbia, Md.; three grandchildren; four brothers: Richard of Meyerstown; Evers of Markleysburg; Herman and Ed, both of Terra Alta, W. Va.; and a sister, Ruth White of Terra Alta, W. Va. He was a former police chief of Confluence Borough, Addison Township and Henry Clay Township. Member of Oakland Lodge, No. 192, F. and A.M. of Oakland, Maryland; member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; Uniontown Lodge and Pittsburgh Consistory; and member of Syria Shrine Temple of Pittsburgh. Friends will be received after 7 p.m. Saturday at the Humbert Funeral Home in Confluence where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with Dr. Arthur Gotjen officiating.
