Mahler, 81, Windber, formerly of Shade Township, died Sept. 18, 2006, at Windber Hospice. Born Dec. 16, 1924, in Shade Township, son of David and Elizabeth (Helbig) Mahler. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, William and John; and an infant sister, June. Survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Marjorie Richie; children, Kathleen, married to Michael Buben, Cairnbrook; Bryan, Windber; David, married to the former Roni Paugh, Greenville, S.C.; Christine, married to David Turcato, Windber; and Janice, married to Ernest Buhl, Erie; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Brother of Jacob Wolfe, McKees Rocks; Emma, married to Peter Barta, and Mary DeArmitt, both of Stoystown. A 1943 graduate of Shade High School. World War II Army veteran. Retired state liquor store manager and farmer. Member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Wilbur; Stoystown American Legion Post 257; and a former member of the All American Swingers square dance club. He enjoyed traveling, skiing, boating and gardening. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Additional viewing from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.Thursday at Otterbein United Methodist Church, Wilbur. The Rev. James Hamilton officiating. Interment Lambertsville Cemetery.
