Malas, 83, of Buffalo Mills, died Aug. 2, 2001 at Veterans Administration Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Nov. 10, 1917 in Fairhope, he was a son of the late Louise (Reschke) and William Malas. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Reinhold and Emil Malas. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, D. Vivian (Lehman) whom he married Nov. 6, 1945; children, Dr. Kenneth Malas, Park City, Utah; Frederick and wife, Doris (Miller), Buffalo Mills; Joanna, wife of Galen Barefoot, Warrenton, Va., and Kathleen, wife of Jeffery Fisher, Fairhope; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and sister, Lydia Ringeisen, Berlin. Mr. Malas worked as a self-employed farmer. He was an Army veteran of World War II having served with the 73rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion. Member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence St., Hyndman. Funeral service will be conducted at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Glen Savage, with the Rev. Wilfred L. Karsten officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Glen Savage. In lieu of flowers, it is Mr. Malas' wish that memorials be made to Lutheran Radio Ministries, 660 Mason Ridge Center Drive, St. Louis, Mo., 63141 in his memory. Daily American, August 4, 2001 [M0055]
