Born Oct. 9, 1913, in Tuschin, Russia, son of William and Louise (Resehke) Malas. Preceded in death by parents, wife, the former Carrie Grace Hoffman, who died on April 2, 2000, and brother Emil W. Malas. Survived by stepson Edward R.J. Hoffman, married to the former Barbara Ritson, of Somerset, 10 stepgrandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother Leonard F. Malas of Buffalo Mills, Pa., and sister Mrs. Lydia Ringeisen of Berlin. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Glen Savage, Pa. Veteran of U.S. Army Air Corps of World War II. Retired employee at the former Somerset State Hospital. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home in Somerset. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Glen Savage with the Rev. John F. Jenista officiating. No viewing at the church. Interment will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
