MANKAMYER Oscar Leonard Mankamyer, 86, formerly of Easton, Md., died Friday, April 3, 1998, at the Central Park Health Center, Orlando, Fla. Born Nov. 21, 1911, in Somerset County, he was a son of the late Lewis M. and Elenora (Bittner) Mankamyer. After attending public school in Larimer Township, Mr. Mankamyer worked on the family farm until 1936, when he moved to Talbot County, Md., and continued farming. In 1943 he moved to Akron, Ohio, to work in a defense plant and returned to Talbot County in 1947. He resumed farming and also worked as a carpenter and painter until retiring in 1973. Mr. Mankamyer was a member and former deacon of the Easton Church of the Brethren, where he maintained his membership since moving to Orlando in 1986. He is preceded in death by his wife, the former Catherine Lucille Tipton, whom he married in April 1934. She died in December 1962. Mr. Mankamyer is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Ila Jean and Samuel Stutsman of Snow Hill, Md.; Deanna Rae and Robert Good of Princess Anne, Md.; and Barbara Ann and Lester Medford Jr., Preston, Md.; another daughter, Linda Lee Lewis, Salisbury, Md.; a son and daughter-in-law, Dale L. and Carol Mankamyer of Orlando; a sister, Pauline M. Smith of Sykesville, Md.; a brother, Howard Mankamyer, Kent, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Services were held April 8 at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, Md. Interment, Fairview Church Cemetery, Cordova, Md.
