Mapes, 70, St. James City, Fla. Died Aug. 13, 2000 at his home. Preceded in death by parents, William and Elizabeth (Rodgers) Mapes and brothers, Robert and Lewis Mapes. Surviving are wife of 31 years, Frances of St. James City, Fla.; sisters, Catherine Bertoldi of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Jane Mapes of Somerset, and brother William Mapes of Somerset. Born in Somerset, he was a resident of Clinton, Ohio for 19 years, moving to Florida 11 years ago. He retired from Ford Motor Co. in Walton Hills, Ohio and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of Korean Conflict. Member of Moose Lodge, American Legion, First Baptist Church of St. James City, Fla., and volunteered with FISH of St. James City. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, Barberton, Ohio, Pastor E. Murray McMillan officiating.
