Born in Johnstown, on May 29, 1916. Preceded in death by parents, Frank and Bertha; brother William Adair; sisters Kitty Glock and Mary Sell. He is survived by his wife, Lenore Dickinson Mardis and daughter Muffet McClintock, son-in-law Scott McClintock, all of Somerset. Also survived by: brother, Frank Mardis and sister-in-law Mary Edith Mardis, Johnstown; grandchildren Leslie McClintock, Centreville, Va., and Ian McClintock, Washington, DC. In 2004 Mr. Mardis celebrated the 50th anniversary of Mardis Motors. During this period he also owned auto dealerships in Ligonier and Johnstown. Prior to that he was regional sales manager for CIT Corporation, New York. He was a member of Somerset Rotary and Johnstown Masons. He served on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Automotive Association, the Ford National Dealer Council, The County Trust Co. and the Somerset Country Club. Mr. Mardis was honorably discharged with the rank of major after serving in World War II in the China-Burma-India Theater and was a member of the Roof Garden BASHA. Subsequently he served in the local Army Reserve until the mid 1950s. Mr. Mardis attended Mercersburg Academy and the University of Pittsburgh. His lifelong love of the water is reflected in his partial ownership of Cat Cay Island in the Bahamas and his position as Vice-Commodore of the Trestle Cove Yacht Club. He was affectionately known as Kingfish, the avid yachtsman and conversationalist. There will be no visitation. After the family returns to Somerset a memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. May 19 at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church.
