Markley, born in Barbour County, W.Va., Nov. 15, 1861, died at his home in Markleysburg, Pa., July 3, 1941, in his 80th year. He had been in poor health during the last three years and was bedfast during the last 16 months of his life. His death was caused by heart disease and hardening of the arteries. His wife died in 1930, and he was cared for in his own home during the latter years of his life by his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Markley. The deceased was for many years a prominent citizen of the Markleysburg community, and some of his forebears figured prominently in the early history of Salisbury and vicinity. He is survived by these children: Mrs. Alex Johnson of Meyersdale, and C. R. Markley of Markleysburg. He is also survived by one brother and three sisters, namely: M. R. Markley of Charleston, W.Va.; Miss Delilah Markley of Dunbar; Mrs. Hattie Phillips of Uniontown, and Mrs. Beatrice Burns of Chicago, Ill. Among other near surviving relatives is Mortician Stanley M. Thomas of Salisbury, under whose direction the funeral services were conducted at the Markley home, last Sunday, by Rev. B. B. Ludwick and interment was made in the Thomas Cemetery.
