All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ MARY SHUPERT MARQUART Mrs. Mary Shupert Marquart of Confluence, daughter of Peter and Margaret Zimmerman Shupert and widow of the late Charles Marquart, died at her home in Hotel Dodds, Confluence, on Wednesday, November 7, at 8:30 a.m., at the age of 90 years. Mrs. Marquart celebrated her 90th birthday anniversary last July 16. She was born in Butler County, on April 16, 1855. She was married to Charles Marquart of Rochester, April 8, 1880. She is survived by one son, Frederick J. and one daughter, Mrs. Laura E. Markle, both of Confluence, and one grandchild, Dr. Mary Markle of Chicago; also one brother, John Shupert, of Pittsburgh. Mr. and Mrs. Marquart celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in April, 1930. Her husband died on April 15, 1938. He was owner and manager of Hotel Dobbs, for years, having come here from Rochester, Pa., in 1900 to take over the hotel business from his brother, Jackson Marquart Dodds, who had owned and operated the hotel a number of years previous to that time. After the death of Charles Marquart, the business and management was taken over by their daughter, Mrs. Laura E. Markle, whose husband passed away three months before her father's demise. Mrs. Marquart was a member of the Lutheran Church, Confluence, having transferred her membership from the Rochester Lutheran Church in 1900. She was an active member of the church until a few years ago. She was also a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary here, her son having served overseas in World War I. Her parents came to America from Germany and located in Butler County, Pa., in 1840. Funeral services were held at her home on Saturday, November 10, at 2 p.m. Pallbearers were Legionaires Harry L. Campbell, Joseph Critchfield, Homer Rush, Robert Kurtz, Prof. C. C. Shaffer and Capt. Earl Fuller, of Harry Lichty Post No. 394, American Legion, Confluence. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Fred Gutermuth and Mr. and Mrs. Wade Jones of Youngstown, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Averman and John Shupert, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Waldo Rhone, Rochester, Pa.; Mrs. Kathryn Courtney of West Bridgewater, Pa., and S. Bitts and Mr. Orbin, Pittsburgh. Burial was in Addison Cemetery. Rev. Jerome V. Guss, pastor of the Confluence Lutheran Church, officiated. Meyersdale Republican, November 15, 1945
