Martin, 69, of Somerset RD 4, died Dec. 19, 1982, at his home. Born June 10, 1913, in Somerset County, son of the late Rock and Cordy (Yorty) Martin. He was a resident of Melcroft for most of his life. He was a former coal miner working in the Melcroft Mines. He was owner and operator of Martin's Grocery Store in Melcroft for many years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America; the Salt Lick Township Volunteer Fire Department; the Jennerstown Rod and Gun Club; and he was a member of St. Raymond-of-the-Mountains Roman Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Nana Ruth (Hostetler) Martin; two sons: James R., of Melcroft; and Roy Dennis, at home; five grandchildren, three brothers: Rock Martin Jr., Seward; Harry Martin, Melcroft; and Samuel Martin, Connellsville; one sister, Mary Martin, Clearwater, Fla. He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Martin. Friends will be received at the Clyde Brooks Funeral Home Inc., Route 711 at Melcroft, from 7-9 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Raymond-in-the-Mountains Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Francis Ott as celebrant. Interment will follow, parish cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Daily American, December 20, 1982 [M0253]
