Mr. Martz, who was considered a model young man and held in high esteem by all who know him, was for the past several years employed as a cutter in the local shirt factory of the Phillips-Jones Corporation. he was a good mechanic and a faithful employee, and his passing is mourned not only by those near and dear to him by the ties of relationship, but by his fellow employees and the heads of the local factory, as well. The body was removed from the hospital to his home on Monday afternoon, where hundreds called to pay their last respects up until the time of the funeral on Wednesday afternoon, when the shirt factory, as a mark of respect closed down for the remainder of the day to permit the superintendents, heads of departments and employees to attend the funeral services, which were held in the Evangelical Church on the South Side, Rev. Charles W. Raley, the pastor, and Rev. A. F. Thomas, a former pastor of the local church, officiating. Not one-fourth of those who went to the church were able to gain admittance to the edifice, which was almost filled to capacity before the arrival of the funeral cortege. Following the services at the church interment was made in Union Cemetery. Mr. Martz was a member of H. C. McKinley Camp No. 214, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and also of Company C, Fourth Regiment Reserves, an auxiliary of the camp. At the grave the Sons of Veterans, under the direction of Commander Frank C. Robertson, had charge of the ceremonies. Members of the Sons of Veterans Camp also served as pall-bearers. Mr. Martz was born in Meyersdale April 10th, 1907, and had he survived until tomorrow (Friday) would have reached the age of 24 years. he is survived by his father and two brothers, Sylvester and Russell Martz, both at home. His mother who, before her marriage, was Miss Annie Dietle, died about ten years ago. He was an active, loyal member of the Evangelical Church and took great interest in the activities of the organization. The funeral was held under the direction of Undertaker Joseph L. Tressler. The floral tributes from the company with which he had been employed, his fellow-workers and the camp were both lavishly numerous and beautiful. Meyersdale Republican, April 9, 1931
