Mash, 87, East Third Street, Gray, died Jan. 12, 2003 at Somerset Hospital. Born March 29, 1915, in Colver, son of Tarquinio and Louise (Mazzaferri) Mash. Preceded in death by parents; daughter, Barbara A. Fatula; grandson, Robert Fatula; sisters, Sophia Dorcy and Lena Yancey; and brothers, Joseph and Avel Mash. Survived by wife, former Julia M. Wozniak; son Edward S. married to former Carolyn L. Temple, Charleston, W.Va.; daughter, Jeanne L., married to Robert A. Bowlby, Somerset; grandchildren Joey, Jason and Michael Fatula; Jennifer and Ryan Bowlby; Heather Nellis; and Erik, Stefan and Sara Mash; and great-grandchildren Jake Fatula, Brandy Nellis and Ethan Mash. Brother of Geraldine, married to Jack Spears, Missouri; John, married to former Grace Foust, Windber and Julius married to former Betty Kimack, Vintondale, also survived by special nieces Linda and Connie Wozniak. He was a coal miner for 51 years, having worked for various mines in Somerset and Cambria Counties. He retired as a foreman from former Jandy Coal Co., Windber. He observed his 65th wedding anniversary on Oct. 23, 2002. Member of All Saints Catholic Parish; UMWA, Somerset Sportsmen and Jenner Rod & Gun Club. Honorary member of Knights of Columbus. He was an avid hunter and wood worker. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at All Saints Chapel, Acosta, the Rev. Father Justin A. Ratajczak OFM Conv. and Sam's nephew, Father Wesley Mash, co-celebrants. Interment, Husband Cemetery, Somerset. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sam's name may be sent to American Cancer Society, 168 W. Union St., Somerset, Pa. 15501.
