Born June 7, 1921, in Jerome, son of Nicholas and Mary (Kurin) Mastillo. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Mary Emerick; brother, Charles Mastillo; and his wife, the former Nora McClemens, who died Feb. 14, 1992. Survived by these children: Ron McClemens, married to the former Dorothy Geahart, Elton; John R. Mastillo, married to the former Wanda Ashbrook, Jerome; beloved daughter, Alice J. Mastillo, and beloved grandson, Shawn M. Mastillo, both at home; six grandchildren, one great-grandson. Brother of Nick Mastillo Jr. and Anna Malinowsky. Army veteran of World War II. Served in Company D, 540 Engineers Regiment. Recipient of Purple Heart and Good Conduct medal, European, African, Middle Eastern service medals, with six Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead. Member of Jerome American Legion Post 802, Hollsopple VFW Post 8861. Retired from Penn Machine with 20 years of service. Lifetime member of Hollsopple Volunteer Fire Company. Member of Pa. Fire Police Association. Chief of police of Benson Borough Police Department for more than 30 years. Family receiving friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at George E. Mason Funeral Home Inc., Davidsville, where panachida will be held at 7 p.m. Friday. Parastas service at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Miklos of St. Mary's Orthodox Catholic Church in Jenners officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Graveside military service by Menoher Post 155 VFW.
