Anthony Joseph Matassa Jr., 60, of Somerset, died Jan. 5, 2004, at John's Hopkins Medical Center, Baltimore, Md. He was born Sept. 24, 1943, in Old Forge, a son of Anthony Joseph and Anna (Chupron) Matassa Sr. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia Zambetti to whom he was married 39 years; children, Steven Matassa of Somerset and Mrs. Forrest Frederick (Joy) Twigg of Hedgesville, W.Va.; two grandsons, Forrest and Sawyer Twigg. Brother of Michael Frank Matassa of Marwood, Md. Member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Moved to Somerset in 1971 where he served as a Pa. state trooper until retirement in January 1996. Anthony was a decorated state trooper and member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed coaching youth and high school soccer. Following retirement, he and his wife, Patricia, loved to spend time at their vacation home in Ocean View, Del. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed boating and fishing on the Delaware Bays. He became an artist whose work was highly sought after in the Delware Beach communities. Friends received from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Somerset, with the Rev. Monsignor Samuel J. Tomaselli celebrant.
