Born Nov. 30, 1886 in Berlin, he was a son of the late Peter and Matilda (Imhoff) Mathias. Preceded in death by his wife, the former Frances Latta, in 1977, and one son, Samuel E. He is survived by three sons: Ralph J., Great Cacapon, W.Va.; Robert H., Melbourne, Fla.; Harry W., Mt. Ranier, Md.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; also by one brother, Jesse A., Fairmont, W.Va. Mr. Mathias had been a member of the Modern Woodmen of America Camp 5758, Somerset, for over 70 years. Friends will be received after 2 p.m. Saturday in the Johnson-Kuhlman Funeral Home, Berlin, where services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Kenneth S. Swanson officiating.
