Born Aug. 8, 1949 in Somerset, the son of John S. and Faye (Gettings) Matkoskey. Preceded in death by his mother in 1992. Survived by his father, John S. Matkoskey of Acosta; his wife the former Kathleen "Kasey" Marie Couch, to whom he was married 25 years; and these children: Darin L. Matkoskey, of Ypsilanti, Mich.; Ms. Patricia VanderVennet of Madison, Conn.; Paul E. Matkoskey, married to the former Margaret Mulhearen of Ypsilanti, Mich.; and Miss Jennifer M. Matkoskey and her fiance Jeff Barkley, both of Somerset; and grandson Patrick Scott VanderVennet. Also survived by brothers and sisters: Mrs. Jerry (Judy) Holiday of Stoystown; Mrs. Brian (Pam) Costea of Somerset; Mrs. Rick (Peggy) Wilkins of Herndon, Va.; George Matkoskey of Acosta; David Matkoskey and his wife Jenny of Acosta; Nick and his wife Anne of Acosta; and Mrs. Jeff (Tina) Shaffer of Friedens. A 1966 graduate of North Star High School and a Vietnam Veteran Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was also an assistant mine foreman for the Rox Coal Longview Mine. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. William G. Triebe officiating. Interment, Friedens Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Company C, 103rd Armor of the Pennsylvania National Guard.
