Matsko Jr., 77, Front Street, Jenners, died Sept. 1, 1997, at home. Born July 14, 1920, in Jenners, a son of John J. Sr., and Sophia (Barron) Matsko. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Helen Panek; brother, Edward, and beloved grandson, Edward Matsko Jr., on May 30, 1995. Survived by wife, the former Linda Gallucci; children: John J. III, married to Teresa Calisti, Boswell; Edward Sr., married to Roxane Kolinsky, and Gary, married to Victoria Kulka, both of Jenners, and Donna, wife of Stacy Schmitt, Jenner Crossroads; also 9 grandchildren. Brother of Julia Jarosyk, Boswell; Anna Grabe, Flushing L.I., N.Y.; Betty Kohler, Windber, and Donald "Ducky," Jenner Crossroads. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Member of All Saints Catholic Parish; Somerset County Sportsmen Association; Somerset County Oldtimers Baseball Association; Boswell Post 461, American Legion; Hollsopple Post 8861, VFW; Jerome Polish Falcons Nest 556; North Star School Board, and the Pa. School Board Association. Long-time member and past president for 38 years of the Jenner Rod and Gun Club. Served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, receiving the Navy Unit Commendation ribbon for participation in 7 invasions. Democratic committeeman in Jenner Township for approximately 15 years. Retired assistant superintendent mine foreman for Bethlehem Mining Corp. Area miner with over 42 years service. Would have observed 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 27, 1997. Avid hunter and fisherman. Friends received from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where wake service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. Friday at All Saints Church, Boswell, (formerly St. Stanislaus Church), the Rev. Father Blase Wegierski O.F.M. Conv. celebrant. Interment, Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Jenner Township. Graveside military rite in the charge of Menoher Post 155 VFW Ritual Team.
