  Helen G. Matthews, 81, South Columbia Avenue, Somerset, died Oct. 9,
  2004, at The Patriot nursing home in Somerset.  Born April 2, 1923, in
  Fort Wayne, Ind., the daughter of the late Arthur A. and Edna L.
  (Bere) Boyers.  Preceded in death by parents; sister, Dawn and
  husband, Michael.  Survived by six children: Dr. Josephine Matthews,
  Towson, Md., Dr. Michael Matthews, Niles, Ohio, John S. Matthews,
  Macon, Ga., Mark J. Matthews, Sipesville, Blase C. Matthews, New
  Carlisle, Ohio, Teresa Matthews Miller, LaVale, Md.; nine
  grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  A sister of Arthur E. Boyers,
  Topeka, Kan.  A 1945 graduate of Christ's Hospital School of Nursing,
  Topeka, Kan. Veteran of the United States Army Nurse Corps (2nd Lt.),
  World War II.  Member of St. Peters Catholic Church, Somerset,
  Registered Nurses Association, and the "55 and over Speeders" seniors
  club at St. Peters.  Friends received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday
  at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset.  Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30
  a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Church.  The Rev. Monsignor Tomaselli,
  celebrant.  Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
