Maul passed away at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, August 5, at his home on Center Street, after a long illness. He had been brought home on Saturday after several weeks spent in the Hazel McGilvery Hospital, somewhat improved in condition. On Tuesday morning he suffered a heart attack and died a short time after. He was born in Somerset County, the son of John and Magdalene (Deist) Maul, natives of Germany. His father, an expert tailor, established a tailor shop in Meyersdale in which his sons, John and Freemon, learned the trade and which they took over at the father's death. Maul Brothers were widely known as fine tailors and had a large patronage, customers coming as far distant as Pittsburgh to have suits tailor-made in their shop. Some time after the death of his younger brother in 1934, John Maul retired from business. He is survived by his sister, Miss Sue Maul, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Freemon Maul. Friends will be received at the family home where the funeral will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. H. K. Hilner, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church. Interment in Union Cemetery under the direction of W. C. Price & Son. Meyersdale Republican, August 7, 1947
