Born Jan. 12, 1918 in Lincoln Township, the son of Guy Milton and Katherine "Katie" Viola (Bell) Maurer. Preceded in death by parents; two sons, James and Albert W. Maurer Jr., and infant daughter; a sister, Sarah Rhinebolt; two brothers, Roy and David Maurer and two grandsons. Survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Mary Jane Pyle, and these children: Mrs. Donald L. (Wilma) Adams of Pittsburgh and Richard E. Maurer of Friedens. Also survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Brother of Mrs. (Dorothy) Moore of Tide City, Ore., Carl E. Maurer of Hooversville, Guy M. Maurer Jr., of Chicago, Ill., William Daniel "Dan" Maurer of Somerset, Charles K. Maurer of Trenton, N.J., Donald Maurer of Jacksonville, Fla. and Mrs. William (Mary) Heist of Nampa, Idaho. Attended Listie Grace Brethren Church. Retired from the GM & W Coal Company in 1981. A self-employed farmer. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Rev. Ronzil L. Jarvis officiating.
