He was one of several children who were ailing and had responded promptly to treatment. He appeared to be well and ate supper with the family on Saturday evening, but shortly after supper he suddenly became violently ill. Mr. Maust hurried to a doctor whom he begged to come at once to minister to the sick boy. The doctor would not go, but gave the father some medicine for the little sufferer. The medicine had no effect and the child's condition became steadily worse. Hurried calls to practically every doctor within reach were fruitless, and at 4 a.m., Mrs. Maust went to call once more, but this was too late. Before she returned, Eldon had passed away in his father's arms. This was why a coroner's inquest was necessary, but even this failed to identify positively the fatal disease. The body of the child was brought to the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Witt, of Summit Mills, parents of Mrs. Maust, and after a short service by Rev. W. E. Ronk was interred in the Lichty Cemetery beside two brothers, both of whom died young. Eldon was aged 4 years, 8 months and 9 days, and is survived by his parents and these brothers and sisters: Woodrow, Mary Ida, Helen, Vietta, Quentin, Gladen and Ruth, besides his grandparents and other relatives.
