All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ GEORGE MAUST Miner Killed Under Rock Fall George Maust Crushed to Death in Acosta Mine on Monday George Maust, 42, a son of Christopher and Ida (Funk) Maust of Meyersdale R.F.D., was crushed to death Monday under a fall of rock in Acosta Mine of the Consolidation Coal Company. Maust was engaged in making repairs to the roof and was making a preliminary examination when the roof collapsed. His head and chest were crushed. Maust was dead when extricated from under the boulder by fellow workers. Coroner F. E. Sass was notified and said he would await the report of a mine inspector before deciding whether an inquest will be necessary. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Marie (Schroyer) Maust, and four children, Tolva, Reda, LaNalo and Edward Maust, all at home. He also leaves his father, a resident of Meyersdale R.D., a brother, Clarence Maust, Meyersdale, and four sisters. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in Wilhelm Reformed Church at St. Paul. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, January 30, 1941 --- GEORGE EDGAR MAUST George Edgar Maust, son of Christ and Ida (Folk) Maust, was fatally hurt under a fall of rock in the Acosta Mines, Acosta, January 27. He was an employee of the Consolidated Coal Company for 20 years. At the time of his death his age was 42 years, 9 months and 26 days. Surviving are his wife, Marie (Shroyer) Maust, and four children, Folva, Reva, Nola and George Edward, all at home. His aged father, Christ Maust, of Meyersdale, R.D., also survives and the following sisters and brother: Mrs. Robert Faidley, Mrs. Marling Gnagey, Sadie and Eva Maust, all of Meyersdale, and Clarence Maust of Kimmelton, Pa. He was a life long member of the St. Paul's Reformed Church. He will be remembered by many friends as a jovial, hard-working man. Devotion to his home and children always came foremost in his life. He was a man never known to be without work and always performed any task willingly. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Jan. 29, at St. Paul's Reformed Church by the Rev. Alvin J. Forry, under the direction of Mortician J. H. Blansett and Son of Stoystown, Pa. Interment in the church cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, February 6, 1941
