Maust, 87, of Berlin, died March 18, 2002 at his residence. Born Oct. 31, 1914 in Pittsburgh, the son of Charles L. and Rose Ella (Dreyer) Maust. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth (Boyer) Maust, son Richard Dale Maust, sister Evora Marie Hostetler, brother Harry W. Maust, step-son Eugene Crosby and brother-in-law, Richard "Jack" Shipley. Survived by a daughter-in-law Nancy (Knopsnyder) Maust, Somerset; four grandchildren, Gerald Maust, Bryan Maust, Susan Kurtz and Vickie Close, all of Somerset; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Eleanor Mae Maust, Somerset, Emily, married to Henry Fritz, Berlin, Edith Rae Shipley, Berlin; B. Elaine, married to Walter Altfather Sarver; three brothers, Warren, married to the former Faye Glessner Bowser, Orlando, Fla., Thomas, married to the former Sara Woodrow, Berlin; Charles, married to the former Colleen Rhodes, Berlin; a nephew Bruce Hostetler, married to the former Charlotte Shunk Sarver; plus other nephews and nieces. Also a brother-in-law, Earl E. Boyer, Berlin; and a sister-in-law, Bernadine Brennen, Conn. He was a member and former choir member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin. Navy veteran of World War II. Former supervisor for PennDOT and Pa. Turnpike Commission. Former prothonotary for Somerset County and a care taker at the former Berlin Brothersvalley Joint High School. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Harry Fisher Post 445, Mountain Field and Stream Club, both of Berlin, Berlin Area Ambulance Association, Berlin IOOF Lodge 461, and a former member of the Berlin Lions Club and Berlin Men's Octet. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Melvin A. Kirk Jr., officiating. Interment, Berlin IOOF Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 507 Main St. Berlin, Pa. 15530, or the charity of one's choice.
