Maust, born and reared in Salisbury, died at the Veterans' Hospital, Aspinwall, Pa., Friday, Jan. 10, 1941, at the age of 40 years, 10 months and 10 days. He was a son of Mrs. Ada B. (Lichty) Maust, and the late Frank A. Maust, and was a World War veteran. His death was caused by a paralytic stroke, of which he had more than one within the last few years. During his early manhood he was united in marriage with Miss Lucretia Bender, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bender of Springs, Pa. Some time later he engaged in the coal mining business near Salisbury, and also near Kantner. He remained in that business as long as it was profitable. Finally, after a decline in the coal business nearly everywhere, he and his family located in Punxsutawney, Pa., where he established himself in the tire retreading business, and remained there until his health failed him so badly that he was not physically fit to be in any kind of business, and returned with his wife and only child, daughter Jean, to Salisbury. For about a year they shared the large residence of his devoted mother on West Ord Street. His condition became gradually worse, and on the day after Christmas, he was taken to the hospital where he died. His body was brought back to Salisbury as soon after his death as possible by the local mortician Stanley M. Thomas, who prepared it for burial, and had charge of all of the burial arrangements. Mr. Maust is survived by his wife and daughter, Jean, also by his mother and the following sisters and brother: Mrs. Olive Hooker of Nokesville, Va.; Ernest J. Maust of Brewster, Florida, and Mrs. Mary Russett of Jacksonville, Florida. These relatives were all in attendance at the funeral. The funeral services which took place at the Maust home at 2:00 p.m., Monday, was also largely attended and there were many beautiful floral tributes. The service was conducted by Rev. A. Jay Replogle of Salisbury, a minister of the Church of the Brethren, of which the deceased had been a member. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 554 of Meyersdale, and was a graduate of the Salisbury High School. Interment was in the Salisbury I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, January 16, 1941
