Maust, 84 of Orlando, FL, died peacefully January 21, 2008 at Select Specialty Hospital due to complications from colon surgery on December 10, 2007. He was born June 8, 1923 at home near Berlin on the family farmstead, son of Rose Ella (Dreyer) Maust and Charles L. Maust. He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, S. Jane (Shipley) Maust in 1975; brothers: Harry and Richard; and sisters: Evora Hostetler and Eleanor Maust. He is survived by his wife, Faye Glessnor (Bowser) Maust; two daughters: Nancy J. Polk, Atlanta, GA and Donalee James, Valdosta, GA; two sons: W. Fred Maust II, Atlanta and David A. Maust, Little Rock, AR; plus seven grandchildren and a great grandson. He is also survived by three sisters: Edith Shipley, Emily Fritz, and Elaine Altfather; two brothers: Charles and Thomas; and nephew Bruce Hostetler. His schooling consisted of the first eight grades in a one room country school house. Four years of high school were completed in the nearby consolidated school system. In addition to helping with the many and varied tasks of a dairy farm, he trapped small animals to earn money as growing up during the depression allowed few luxuries. After high school. He helped run the dairy and farm until the outbreak of World War II. He enlisted in the aviation cadet program and graduated from pilot school at 21. Assigned to four engine B-24 Liberator aircraft training, then crew training and overseas to Italy where he completed 50 missions flying as lead crew aircraft commander for 28 missions. None of his crew was ever lost or wounded; they often suffered clothing and equipment damage, narrowly escaping serious injuries. On one encounter, their B-24 plane suffered over two hundred holes from shrapnel. He was separated in 1945 as a Captain and assigned a reserve commission. The Korean War recalled four-engine pilots to refresher/flying training in B-29 bomber. A tour of combat flying over North Korea was successful, completing 30 missions, he did not lose a plane or a crew member Warren then decided to make a career of the Air Force. Assignments to Air Refueling and Missile (Minuteman) resulted on a long tour at Great Falls, Montana. A three year tour in Germany followed and then retirement in 1970 as a Lieutenant Colonel in Orlando, FL. In all he compiled over 1100 hours of four engine flight time - 730 of those hours were combat flying time contributing to being awarded 26 medals and decorations including the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was an avid golfer; his golfing career included 6 hole in ones, numerous club championships at Ventura Country Club. Warren golfed into his eighties, shooting his age frequently, despite serious cancer operations. He was past president of the Ventura Golf Association. He was active in Atonement Lutheran Church where he served in various capacities including several terms as President of the Council. He was member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Shriners and he was a 32nd degree Mason. Most important to Warren was his love for his family, his first wife Sara Jane, and his current wife Faye. He devoted his time and talent to the Lutheran Church, his country, and his family. Funeral services with a Military service by American Legion Post 445 and VFW Post 7295 will be February 9th at 11 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 525 Main Street, Berlin, PA 15530. Memorial services will be held on February 23rd - 11 a.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church, 7525 Lake Underhill Road, Orlando, FL 32822. The Reverend Dr. Harold G.
