MAY BOYNTON, Dec. 14 - Daniel H. May, oldest resident of Bedford County, Pa., died Saturday morning, Dec. 5, at his home one mile north of Hyndman. Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Monday morning, Dec. 7, at the Madley church, conducted by Rev. C. W. Evans. Interment was made in the Madley Cemetery. Mr. May was a native of Hyndman section and was 98 years, 4 months and 1 day old when he died. He was one of the last surviving veterans of the Civil War in that section, and had been a carpenter for many years, retiring from active work about 30 years ago. He was one of six brothers, five of whom served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He enlisted in Company C, 82nd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and saw service in several battles. Mr. May had a vivid recollection of the times prior to the Mexican and Civil wars, and until the last year enjoyed excellent health despite his age. Mr. May was twice married, his first wife being Julia Ringer. They had eleven children, five of whom are dead. His second wife was Anna D. Mull and they had five children, one of whom died in infancy. Mr. May is survived by four sons, George, of Meyersdale R.D. 1; Humphrey and Thomas S. May, of Cumberland, and Earl, of Boynton; and six daughters, Mrs. William Shuck, of Meyersdale, R.D. 1; Mrs. Herman Licking, Connellsville; Mrs. Elmer Ritenour, Canton, Ohio; Mrs. Albert Wahl, Meyersdale R.D. 1; Mrs. C. E. Thomas of Cumberland, Md., and Mrs. Fred McNamara, of Connellsville. He also leaves a brother, Silas May, of Buffalo Mills, 57 grandchildren, 122 great-grandchildren and nine great-great- grandchildren. Meyersdale Republican, December 17, 1931
