D. Gnagey of Altoona, Pa., died on Monday, June 15, at Tucson, Arizona. Miss Mayner was graduated from Dennison University, Granville, Ohio, in June, 1927, and was elected to a teaching position in the Ashland High School. But a short time after her graduation she became ill and it was discovered she was a victim of the white plague, pulmonary tuberculosis. Her condition soon became so grave that she was taken to a sanitarium in Tucson, Arizona, on advice of Ohio physicians. But even the climate of Arizona could not stay the ravages of the diseases, and she gradually declined until death relieved her sufferings after a four year battle. Her parents were with her during most of her stay in Arizona and remained with her until the end. The body has been brought to the family home in Ashland where the funeral, which will be private, will take place at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Miss Mayner was a very bright, beautiful and lovable young woman and was apparently in the best of health until the close of her college career. She died at the age of 26. She is survived by her parents and one brother, and a host of friends who are saddened by her tragic fate. Meyersdale Republican, June 18, 1931
