Mayse, 71, who died of a heart attack last Saturday at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Schrock of Gray, were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Schrock home by Rev. Paul Trimpey, pastor of the Hopewell Methodist Church. Burial took place in the Reformed Church Cemetery, Jennerstown, under the direction of Jay O. Hay, Boswell mortician. Boswell I.O.O.F. Lodge conducted rites at the grave. Mr. Mayse was born in West Virginia on Mar. 1, 1874. He came to Pennsylvania in 1902 and had worked for the Consolidated Coal Company as watchman and police officer until his retirement last Jan. 1. He had been a constable in Jenner Twp. for 24 years. Surviving are his wife, the former Julia Rauch; a daughter, Mrs. Emiline Schrock, at whose home he died; a son, Master Sgt. James M. Mayse, Jr., with the Army in Czechoslovakia, and three grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Mayse had spent several months in Florida, returning to Gray just last week. Constable Mayse had a county-wide reputation as an efficient guardian of the peace and sterling citizen. His namesake son was employed in the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Harrisburg and with the engineering staff of the State Highway Department before he enlisted in the army soon after Japan and Germany declared war against the United States.
