Mayse, 85, Boswell, Jenner Township, went to be with the Lord March 8, 2005, at his beloved Klines Mill Farm. Born June 17, 1919, in Jenners, son of James and Julia (Rauch) Mayse. Preceded in death by parents, first wife, Ethel (Spory) Mayse and sister, Emeline Schrock. Survived by wife of 20 years, Kris (Kostas) Mayse; sons, Michael E. Mayse and friend, Sue Frost, Middlebury, Ind.; and Charley M. Mayse, married to the former Judy Pugh, Jenner Township; grandchildren: Tiffany Mayse; Ryan Mayse and his wife, Molly; and Josh and Amber Mayse; stepdaughter, Ann (Clawson) Lacy, Kona, Hawaii; brother-in-law, John Rauch, married to the former Emma Lou Spory, Jenner Township; and sister-in-law, Violet (Spory) Spence, Davidsville. A graduate of Johnstown High School. A World War II veteran, having served with VCorps on D-day at Omaha Beach. He was a surveyor, having managed construction jobs for Dick Corp. of Pittsburgh. He was also an estimator for the former Fetterolf Coal Co. He also cut gems for many years. A member of Mount Laurel United Church of Christ. A 50-years-plus member of the Somerset Lodge 358 F&AM and a lifetime member of the Boswell Historical Society. He enjoyed many trips to Colorado, where he loved to hunt and fish. Attended annual VCorps reunions all over the United States for the past 50 years. Jim and his wife, Kris, traveled extensively in the past 20 years. He was also an avid reader and took care of all the old books at the 1806 Antique Shop in Jennerstown. Many people from across the United States looked to him for his expertise in hunting down special books. He loved being at the 1806, for his great-grandfather, Squire Henry Rauch, lived there in the late 1800's. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where a Masonic service will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Friends also received from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mount Laurel United Church of Christ, near Gray. The Rev. Joseph M. Beer officiating. Interment, UCC Cemetery, Jennerstown. Graveside military rites by the Somerset County Honor Guard.
