She was born May 16, 1916, in Meyersdale, daughter of the late Robert Harry Philson and Mary Rebecca Reger Philson. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wagner McClure, her brother Samuel Reger Philson, her sister, Margaret Philson Shaver and her granddaughter, Melissa Sue Shale. She is survived by her four children, Mary Katherine McClure Kish and husband, William J., Canfield, OH; Rebecca Anne McClure Shale, Beavercreek, OH; Samuel Philson McClure and wife, Kathy, Meyersdale; Jeffrey Richard McClure, Manassas, VA; six grandchildren: Cristopher Shale and wife, Tara; Melanie Shale, James McClure and wife, Staci; Mary Rebecca McClure Mauzy and husband, Erik; William Kish and wife, Christine and John Kish; four great grandchildren: Courtney Shale, Coll in Shale, Abbey Shale and Payton McClure. She graduated from Temple University where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. She taught elementary school for three years prior to her marriage to James Wagner McClure on August 2, 1941. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Mrs. McClure was an avid reader. She enjoyed needlework and created many beautiful and intricate afghans and counted cross stitch projects. She belonged to two different bridge clubs. She corresponded with many friends and relatives when the art of letter writing was still in vogue. Her family enjoyed the many delicious Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners which she prepared with ease. Mrs. McClure and her husband, Jim spent winters in New Port Richey, FL for fourteen years after his retirement, until his death in 1995. Mrs. McClure was a devoted, caring wife and mother and will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Hwy, Salisbury, PA, on Wednesday 7-9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating. Interment, Salisbury Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church.
