Q. A. McClure Retired Business Executive Expired Soon After Driving His Car to Meyersdale Samuel Quincy Adams McClure, retired business executive, died at his home in Salisbury, at 5:00 p.m., Friday, December 29th, of coronary occlusion. He had been suffering from generalized arterio sclerosis for about 10 years, and had been in critical condition several times in the last few years. Last Friday afternoon, he drove his car to Meyersdale over the extremely icy road prevalent at the time, and became very nervous and ill in the Citizens National Bank. A doctor was called and gave him treatment and dissuaded him from driving his car home. A substitute driver took him home. He seemed to have recovered rather well when he arrived at his home at about 3:30 p.m., and felt that with a little rest, he would be all right, but in a little more than an hour he passed away in his easy chair. Mr. McClure was an executive of the Dictaphone Corp. for a number of years. At one time he was sales manager of the New England states, and later special representative of the corporation in Washington, D.C. He retired a few years ago, when his health failed and came to Salisbury to spend his last days, saying that of all the towns he had seen in his life, he thought this was the nicest one in which to spend his last years. He was a graduate of Bethany College, West Virginia, and of the Detroit College of Law, being president of his class in his Senior year. He was a member of Palestine Lodge of the Masons, in Detroit, and of the Salisbury Lions Club, the second member of the latter to pass away, and to be buried from the same house. Samuel Q. A. McClure was born in McKeesport, Pa., on October 4, 1875, son of the late Capt. Quincy A. and Ellen (Bradbury) McClure, and lived 69 years, 2 months and 25 days. He married Ada Maiden on November 6, 1911. Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Mrs. Rachel Maiden, who lived here with him and Mrs. McClure, two sisters, Mrs. Edna McClure Barchus and Miss Emma McClure, and one brother, Harry K. McClure, all of Salisbury. Two of his brothers, who preceded him in death, Dr. William McClure, of Chicago, and the Hon. James H. McClure, of Glassport, Pa., member of the state legislature for many years, were also well known here. Capt. Q. A. McClure and family became residents of the Salisbury community when the older children were still young. All have always been held in high esteem here. Members of the Lions Club attended the funeral at his home on Monday, January 1st, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. George E. Bowersox, Jr. preached the funeral sermon, and interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery, with Mortician Stanley M. Thomas in charge. Active pallbearers were Bayard S. Maust, John M. Dunn, W. B. Lichliter, G. Rees Lichliter, George Dickey and Albert R. Bowman. The honorary pallbearers, Harry Philson of Meyersdale, H. M. Kretchman, Charles M. May, Robert H. Johnston, A. E. Livengood, Frank F. Petry, John C. Lichliter, Sr., and W. D. Weise. Meyersdale Republican, January 4, 1945
