    Merle W. McDaniel, 83, 89 Jerome Ave., Jerome, died Dec. 13, 1996,
  at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.  Born Sept. 28, 1913 in
  Conemaugh Township, son of William S. and Annie C. (Shull)
  McDaniel.  Preceded in death by parents; infant sister; sister,
  Gladys Devine; brothers, Lloyd, Roy, Clyde, Lee, Lester and Foster;
  son-in-law, Glenn "Butch" Deal, and daughter-in-law, Rita (Deal)
  McDaniel.  Survived by wife, the former Ethel J. Webb; children:
  Carolyn, wife of Ronald Telenko, Jerome; Merle E., married to Sarah
  Singul, Laurel, Del., Allan L. and friend, Donna, of Shelton, Conn.;
  and Connie (Deal), wife of Donald Peck, McDonald, Ohio; 11
  grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.  Brother of Irene Crislip,
  Davidsville, and Arthur, Washington.  Charter member of Tire Hill
  Local 998, UMWA, and Jerome Volunteer Fire Dept.  Also member of
  Ferndale Sportsmen; New Florence Local 1257, UMWA; Jerome Nest 556,
  Polish Falcons of America, and Jerome Post 802, American Legion. 
  Observed 61st wedding anniversary June 1, 1996.  Retired in 1973 from
  Florence Mining Co., New Florence.  Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9
  p.m. Monday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where
  service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Pastors Harold and Mary
  Grace Shenk of Stahl Mennonite Church, officiating.  Interment, Maple
  Spring Cemetery.
